TOPIC: Chest Infections TYPE: Fellow Case Reports INTRODUCTION: Nontuberculous mycobacterium (NTM) associated pulmonary infections are a rising cause for concerns globally. There has been surge of NTM reported cases in the United States over past decade. The most common from isolated due to Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC), kansasii, and abscessus. fortuitum group species subset rapid growing mycobacteria (RGM) that encountered as emerging opportunistic pathogens. compromises M. fortuitum, peregrinum, senegalense, alvei, houstonense, neworleansense, boenickei, septicum, porcinum. This subgroup is rarely infections. We present rare case conceptionense, senegalense complicating care patient with chronic moderate persistent asthma. CASE PRESENTATION: A 25-year-old female history asthma allergic rhinitis who presented clinic reticulonodular opacities left lung on chest x-ray, shortness breath, productive cough, hemoptysis. She had computed tomography (CT) revealing mucus plugging bilateral lower lobes bronchiectasis opacities. Acid-Fast Bacillus (AFB) cultures revealed senegalense. Treatment was started levofloxacin, doxycycline, azithromycin. Repeat CT 3 months after starting treatment improvement mucous plugging. Symptoms were improved minimal sputum production only occasional cough. AFB 3, 6, 9 unremarkable. DISCUSSION: RGMs described disease. Although incidence rare, pathogenic bacteria typically noted surgical wound infections, catheter-related disseminated cutaneous currently based off series individual experience. Cultures sterile following approximately 6 8 weeks. should be continued at least months. Evaluation of Omeprazole in the Treatment of Moderate to Severe Persistent Asthma in Children
Background and Objective: Asthma is the most common chronic disease of childhood. The disease is caused by a temporary blockage of airflow due to chronic inflammation of the airways . One of the conditions that often occur with asthma and exacerbate disease, is gastroesophageal reflux. The aim of this study is to evaluate the role of acid suppressing therapy in patients with refractory asthma...
متن کاملNeutrophilic inflammation in severe persistent asthma.
Airway inflammation in severe asthma is not well characterized but may involve neutrophils. We have compared induced sputum profiles in patients with asthma of varying severity and normal control subjects. We have also measured exhaled nitric oxide (NO) as a noninvasive marker of inflammation. Asthma severity was based on clinical features before treatment and the minimum medication required to...
متن کاملSubcutaneous emphysema complicating asthma.
Subcutaneous emphysema complicating asthma is a somewhat rare condition and when first met with rather an alarming one. Subcutaneous emphysema as a secondary manifestation of trauma of the chest wall, fracture of the orbit with escape of air from the nasal sinuses to the neck and thorax, or on occasion complicating tracheotomy or thoracentesis, is probably more common, and the mechanism whereby...
متن کاملParameters associated with persistent airflow obstruction in chronic severe asthma.
The significance of severe airflow obstruction in severe asthma is unclear. The current study determined whether severe airflow obstruction is related to inflammatory or structural changes in the airways. Patients with severe asthma from a tertiary referral clinic were divided into two groups according to their postbronchodilator forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1): severe persistent ...
